volkskrant magazine

i don’t think there is anything more frustrating than falling in love with a magazine only to find it’s available in a language you don’t understand.

volkskrant intrigued me immediately because of a cover they did starring jeff koons, then kept me with their incredibly thoughtful work, even though i don’t understand dutch.

i came across volkskrant while i was deep in an andy rementer illustration hole on pinterest. while looking at images of andy’s work, a volkskrant cover starring jeff koons grabbed my attention. i wanted to learn more about the magazine so i found a link to their official website and realized they’re based in the netherlands. google translate was no help so unfortunately i couldn’t read any of their articles, but i did find an archive of their covers thanks to cover junkie.

i am shameless when it comes to buying things because they have interesting packaging or beautiful design. half of the things i own were bought on a whim because i thought they would enhance my life some how.

and besides, it’s as william morris said, “have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”
