Why You Need to Watch Broad City

In the past, we’ve been introduced to lots of female friendships on television. From Sex and the CityOrange is the New BlackNew Girls, and many more; there has always been a market that caters to the bond that is a group of girl best friends. Yet the magical thing about Broad City is how best friends Ilana Wexler (played by Ilana Glazer) and Abbi Abrams (played by Abbi Jacobson) are that way in real life as well. You can relate, laugh, and follow along with the duo because you know that it’s more than a scripted performance. They met while both taking improv classes and became instant friends. They went on to create the web series Broad City from 2009 to 2011. The series premiered on Comedy Central on January 22, 2014 and had a ten episode run. I kid you not that I had to pause every two or three minutes from laughing so hard. The comedy is vulgar yet witty, the storylines of each episode are typical scenarios we’ve all gotten ourselves into, and the relationships in the show are ones that you can get behind. The genuine love that Ilana and Abbi have for one another despite the high’s and low’s they get themselves into, is one that instantly reminds you of your own best friends.

The entire first season is available to stream on Comedy Central and with the Season 2 premiere coming out on Thursday, you can probably marathon them all by tomorrow night. With a cameo from executive producer Amy Poehler in the Season 1 finale, I can promise you that you won’t regret giving Broad City a chance.
